Description

My Final Piece, inspired by Kate Powell :iconkatepowellart: and Kid Beyond's lyrics:

"So I pried my heart open
as wide as the sea.
And the strangest sensations came over me.

I could see the clouds dancing.
Felt a raindrop sting.
I could hear the tiny beating of a
butterfly wing."

the most inspirational musician I've heard of is actually Kid Beyond . His words in his songs are so deep and thought-provoking; and lead to self-realisation. He is a peaceful love warrior who follows the philosophies of Buddhism; similar to me - and teaches us to love one another and see the greatness in every single thing; whether it be another person, an object of value to you; an experience... the list could go on - all through the power of music; which plays a big part in connecting people anyway. What a truly inspirational man; just doing good things, in the name of goodness with the power of music and creativity given to him.

He inspired my art piece, Metamorphosis with his song, "I Shall Be Free"; a song about a man who is pessimistic; and is taught the freedom of loving and appreciating things in life; and almost has Nirvana; a sudden self-realisation of the goodness in the world. My painting shows the term self-realisation and Nirvana through a phase called Metamorphosis; the state of being reborn. I chose butterflies to come out of Kid's head as butterflies are seen as unworthy bugs but they are reborn into beautiful winged creatures who everybody admires. We all feel unworthy at one point of our lives; and the symbolism of butterflies is really important to me; the idea that things can change for the better.
"I could see the clouds dancing, felt a raindrop sting. I could hear the tiny beating of a butterfly wing" <- This phrase of "I Shall Be Free" inspired me most; the stranger's words have reawoken Kid's senses so much he begins to pay attention to the little things in life and it brings him happiness.

Kid's face is a mask to represent the life we had before; masks being things to hide ourselves from the badness of the world - influenced by The Phantom of the Opera where the Phantom is abused, and so feels the need to cover up his facial scars. Masks allow people to be another 'character' as it were, in the theatrical side; but underneath is the same person we knew before. I liked the idea of having something to represent the old and new lives.

I had the butterflies coming out of Kid's head as opposed to any other part of his body because it's the mind where our brain lies; the networking of the body that holds everything together. Where thoughts are made and dreams are kept. Where vision is created.

Please listen to Kid's music; and spread the love around.
Namaste.
